There’s something special about the beauty of the ocean just before sunset, when the light softens, and the whole beach seems to pause. That’s exactly the kind of evening it was for Ryan and Francesca’s El Matador Beach Engagement photos. Quiet. Tender. The kind of session that reminds you just how beautiful love can look when it’s unhurried.

El Matador is one of Malibu’s most popular photoshoot locations. Tucked just off the Pacific Coast Highway, it’s where towering rock formations rise out of the sand and the waves echo gently against the cliffs. And when you catch it at the right time of day, barefoot with salty air in your hair, it feels like you’ve stepped right into a dream.

R & F arrived in perfectly coordinated white outfits, Francesca in a flowing dress that moved with every breeze, and Ryan in rolled sleeves and easy confidence. There was a calm between them from the very beginning. The way they held hands, the soft laughter they shared, the quiet space they gave each other, it all made sense.

They weren’t performing for the camera. They were simply being together.

We wandered along the shore, letting the light lead the way. There were moments of stillness, like when she rested her hand gently on his chest, her engagement ring catching the last rays of sun. And there were playful moments too, like when he pulled her in close, whispering something that made her smile just before she kissed him.

El Matador has a way of drawing that out of people. You can’t help but slow down. You notice the way the water wraps around your feet, the way your partner’s laugh sounds a little fuller with the ocean behind it. For Ryan and Francesca, it felt like they were the only two people on the beach.

What stayed with me most wasn’t just how beautiful they looked together, it was the quiet ease of their connection. The way he held her close like home. The way she softened into him like she belonged. It’s that kind of love that makes you pause.

Thank you, Ryan and Francesca, for sharing your evening with me, for trusting me with your story, and for reminding me that the simple moments, barefoot, sun-drenched, held close, are always worth treasuring.
